DOING NUMBERS: STORMZY LANDS FIRST NUMBER ONE SINGLE WITH "VOSSI BOP"
Stormzy has made a triumphant return to form with his latest single “Vossi Bop”, which has gone straight in at number one, beating off competition from Lil Nas X and Taylor Swift. Just a few months shy of headlining Glastonbury, it’s clear that Stormz is gearing up for the release of his second album. The song which reportedly was recorded in 2016, has gotten some hilarious responses on Twitter due some of Stormz’s references.
Joining Stormzy inside the top ten is the track that you just haven’t been able to escape recently, we’re of course talking about “Keisha & Becky” by Russ and Tion Wayne which is number nine on this weeks charts. The track was no doubt given a boost by the remix which featured Jay1, Aitch, Sav’0 and Swarmz which has done an incredible 6.8 Million views in such three weeks since it dropped.
“Keisha & Becky” is closely followed by “Location” the Jae5 produced banger for Dave’s debut album which features Burna Boy. The south London native closes out a sold out UK tour tonight in London which is sure to be one of the shows of the year. Another song which has been inescapable is the Wiley, Stefflon Don & Idris Elba collaboration “Boasty” which takes this weeks number 15 position.
“Fashion Week” from Steel Banglez, MoStack And AJ Tracey is in this weeks number 19 spot. Mostack has just dropped a new set of visuals from his album which is due to land on the 1st of June entitled Stacko. Check out the visuals for “Wild”- AJ Tracey also teased his own new set of visuals promising to bring fan favourite “Ladbroke Grove” to life.
The top twenty this week is closed out by Digga D, who’s smash “No Diet” scoops the number 20 spot, climbing seven places on last week. Hilariously, “No Diet” was the backing track on a Zac Efron promotional video that has been circulating the internet over the last seven days. Jay1’s hit “Your Mrs” is still doing bits at the number 23 spot this week, after peaking at number 19 a few weeks prior, impressively it has spent four weeks in the chart. Dave’s second appearance on the chart is his collaboration with J Hus on “Disaster”. The track comes in at number 33 this week, and gave fans a much needed dose of Hus’ lyrical prowess after a long period of silence. Not3s’ has returned to the charts with his latest single “Wanting” which has narrowly missed out on the top 40, occupying this weeks number 42.
J Hus broke records recently with his Daily Duppy becoming the first one ever to chart. Currently the Duppy is sitting at the number 52 spot, and serves as our only tonic to current J Hus drought that we’re faced with. New entries in this weeks charts come in the form of “Different Strokes” from Mist and Lotto Ash at number 63, “Homage” from SL at number 90 & Bugzy Malone at number 94 with M.E.N 2.
